Eva L. Brookshire, 98, of Chanute, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, April 25, 2010, with her family by her side.

Eva was born southeast of Chanute on Nov. 10, 1911, the daughter of John and Margaret Cheyney. She attended Austin one room school and graduated from business school, working as a Secretary in Kansas City prior to her marriage.

She was united in marriage to E.E. “Cody” Brookshire in 1932. He preceded her in death in 1999. They lived on the same family farm for 63 years.

Eva’s life was her family. She loved the farm life, gardening and crocheting. She was a member of the Shaw Church and was loved and respected by everyone who knew her.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Charlene Bailey and her husband Marion of Oklahoma, and Shirley Moyer and her husband Duane of Chanute; five grandsons, Scott Bailey of Reno, Nev., Monty Bailey of Chanute, Michael Bailey of Temecula, Calif., Darrell Moyer of Erie, and Randy Moyer of Chanute; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and a granddaughter.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, at the Shaw Cemetery, Shaw, with John LaRue officiating. A procession to the cemetery will leave the First Christian Church at 1:15 p.m.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 27, from 2 until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Shaw Christian Church or Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.

Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
