Wendall D. “Red” DeLong, 79, Yates Center, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Yates Center Health Care Center.

He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Strawn to Roy A. and Tracy Phillips DeLong. He graduated from Strawn High School in 1947.

He worked at the Kansas Fire Marshall’s Department from 1988 to 1995, when he retired.

He was a member of the Christian Church, Yates Center.

Survivors include his wife, Alice DeLong, Yates Center; two sons, William D. DeLong, Wichita, and Roger M. DeLong, Valley Center; two daughters, Ava Farid, Wichita, and Linda Ohmie, Yates Center; a brother, Merle DeLong, Topeka; two sisters, Mary Lou Atherly, Topeka, and Hazel Lynn Aurora, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Roy DeLong; two sisters, Bertha and Laura; and a granddaughter.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home, Yates Center. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Burlington.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
