Jack Orr, 73, Chanute, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at his home. He was born Nov. 17, 1935, in Alden to Grayson and Roxey Short Orr.

He graduated from Alden High School in 1953. In 1960, he graduated from Kansas State Teachers College (Emporia State University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

He married Phyllys Muxlow on June 8, 1958, in Sterling. They later divorced. He married Jerry Vaughn Baughn on June 26, 1999, in Chanute. She died Nov. 8, 2006.

He served his country in the United States Army.

Jack loved banking. He worked in the financial industry for more than 36 years until he retired in 1997. Since then Jack enjoyed working as a school-crossing guard for the City of Chanute.

Survivors include a son, Brian Orr, Shawnee; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deanna and Parry Campbell, Olathe, and Chris Merrick, Gardner; two step-sons and a daughter-in-law, Derek and Barbie Baughn, Chanute, and Jasen Baughn of Chanute. He loved his eight grandchildren, Stephanee, Malloree, and Melanee Orr, Taylor and Isaiah Campbell, Milo Barton, and Preston and Isabella Baughn. He is also survived by a sister, Frances Griffith, Sachse. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene Orr; and a sister, Florence Schultz.

Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute. Arrangements are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
