Norma D. Carrico, 79, Thayer, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 at her home in Thayer.

Norma was born in Cherryvale on April 4, 1931, the daughter of Raymond V. and Mamie Nelson Padley. She attended schools in Thayer.

She was united in marriage to Merwin Bowers on Sept. 11, 1947. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1965. She was later united in marriage to Dale C. Stafford on August 23, 1974. He preceded her in death in May 28, 1986. On Sept. 21, 1990, she was united in marriage to Jack L. Carrico. He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2005.

Norma was the owner/operator of the Thayer Gazette. She also had a craft store in Mama C’s in Thayer.

She was a member of the Thayer Christian Church.

Norma is survived by two daughters, Deborah J. Thomas, Wellsville, and Shelly Showalter, Thayer. She was blessed with an extended family, Jerry Stafford of Arkansas, Randy Stafford of Colorado, Bob Stafford, Thayer, Ron Stafford, Thayer, Cathy Herman of Oklahoma, Bill Carrico, Gary Carrico and Eddie Carrico, Thayer; two brothers, Bill Padley, Cherryvale and Ralph Padley, Coffeyville; two sisters, Francis Harris, Thayer, and Florence Rector, Fort Scott.. She has 24 grandchi ldren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Mervin Bowers, Dale Stafford, and Jack Carrico; a son, Mervin Bowers; two grandchildren and nine siblings.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 10 at the Thayer Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Thayer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Thayer Christian Church in Thayer.

Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of Parsons, and may be left with the funeral home.
