Agnes E. Burns, 90, Erie, died Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
She was born March 25, 1918, in Greenbush to Frank and Elizabeth Lyons Marnell. She grew up and attended Greenbush area schools.
On Feb. 16, 1942, she and Charles D. Burns were married in Walnut. He survives.
The couple made their family home in Walnut until retiring in 1980. At that time, they moved to Erie where they had lived until entering Prairie Mission Retirement Village in March.
She enjoyed dancing and writing. Through the years, she especially enjoyed keeping journals. She was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, in Erie, and its Altar Society. For many years, she was also caretaker of the church.
Other survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles C. and Martie Burns, Pueblo West, Colo., John F. and Sharon Burns, Shawnee, Okla., Robert J. and Donna Burns, Fort Scott, and James T. and Judy Burns, Parsons; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, four brothers, and a great-grandson, Heath.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie. Burial will be in the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, Parsons.
The Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the Rosary.
