Harold L. Johnson, 81, Savonburg, died Monday, June 9, 2008.

He was born June 7, 1927, at Savonburg to Wendell Harold Theodore and Lenore Collins Johnson. He attended area schools, graduating from Elsmore High School in 1945.

He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and 1946.

He married Earlene Munson on May 7, 1950, at the Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg. She survives.

After he returned from the service, he was employed with Singer Implement Company, Savonburg, until 1952. He then worked as the manager of the Elsmore Grain Company for 34 years before going to work at Gates Rubber Company in May 1984 until retiring in March 1993. After retirement he worked for the City of Savonburg.

He was a lifelong member of the Friends Home Lutheran Church, Savonburg. He was also a Charter Member of Elsmore Ruritan. He served as a volunteer fireman for Savonburg and Elsmore for many years and served on the Savonburg City Council, School Board and Water District. He loved watching sports and cutting and splitting wood.

Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Cynthia Johnson, Moran; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and James Fewins, Redfield, and Pam and Ron Johnson, Osage City; a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Flo Ann Johnson, Savonburg; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beverley Ard, Elsmore, and Barbara and Raymond Worthington, Stark; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg. Burial will follow at the Swedish Cemetery, Savonburg, under the direction of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Moran.

Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Harold Johnson Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
