Elmer “Doc” William Kullman, 80, Chanute, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

Elmer was born in Warsaw, Mo., on Oct. 16, 1929, the son of Walter and Louise Kullmann.

He farmed for many years and later retired from his own business in forestry work.

Elmer was united in marriage to Evadean Schumaker in August of 1951. She preceded him in death. He married Rose Ethridge Akins on Nov. 6, 1968 in Miami, Okla.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Rose, of the home; a son, John Kullman and his wife, Jeanette, Sedalia, Mo.; a daughter, Joletta VanHoose, Claremore, Okla.; two stepsons, Leonard Ethridge and his wife, Priscilla, Bolivar, Mo., and Elmer Akins and his wife, Desiree, Chanute; two stepdaughters, Karen Gutierrez and her husband, Albert, Chanute, and Kathy Dierks and her husband, Scott, Chanute; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral was 10 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Burial was 3 p.m. on Monday, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Mo.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Chanute Relay for Life and may be left with the funeral home.
