Myrtle Frances Olson, 83, Chanute, formerly of rural Altoona, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Myrtle was born on the family farm in rural Humboldt on Oct. 6, 1926, the daughter of William and Eva Audrey Booe Huffmaster.
She was united in marriage to Harold R. Olson in Chanute on Jan. 16, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2000.
She was a homemaker.
Myrtle was a member of the High Prairie United Methodist Church and the Vilas Homebuilders Extension Unit.
She was an avid gardener, loved making quilts and enjoyed canning and baking, teaching her grandchildren how to bake breads and pies. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them play sports and sing.
Myrtle is survived by two sons, David Olson, Chanute and John Olson and his wife, Susie, Fredonia; two daughters, Elaine Marple and her husband, Max, Altoona, and Nancy McCann and her husband, Del, of Ripon, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hull, Humboldt, and Wilma Beumeler, Stockton, Calif.; and a brother, Carl Huffmaster, Andover.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and a brother Herbert.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 at the High Prairie United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Vilas Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute.
Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
