George R. Washburn Jr., 84, Santa Fe Springs, Calif., died July 11, 2007, at Downey (Calif.) Regional Hospital.

He was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Chanute to George R. Sr. and Fanny DeCamp Washburn. He attended Chanute schools until his graduation.

He married Joan Deck on June 11, 1946, in Chanute. She survives.

He worked at U.S. Filter in California until his retirement.

Other survivors include a son, Joe Washburn, Portland, Ore.; a grandson; two brothers, Herbert Washburn, Chanute, and Samuel Washburn, Albuquerque, N.M.; and two sisters, Grace Jordan, Harrah, Okla., and Margaret Wilson, Thailand.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Washburn; a sister, Vera Harner; and two brothers, Charles Leroy and Donald Washburn.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Penwell Gabel Johnson Chapel.
