James Harlin Chaney, 84, Afton, Okla., died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the Rosewood Terrace Nursing Home in Vinita, Okla.

He was born April 7, 1924, in Douglas County, Mo., to Edward and Cora Bunch Chaney.

He married Lila Irene Coble on July 21, 1947, in Ava, Mo. She preceded him in death.

He worked for the city of Chanute in the Power Plant.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Hoffman, Afton, Okla., and Pam Johnson, Hutchinson; two sons, David Chaney, Garden City, and Don Chaney, Chanute; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wanda Matlock, Wichita.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers, and a son-in-law, David Johnson.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University in care of the funeral home.
