Freda Marie Smittle, 94, Edmond, Okla., formerly of Chanute, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 at the Grace Living Center in Edmond.

Freda was born in West Mineral on May 26, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Mary Dunkin Vanatta. She was a high school graduate.

She was united in marriage to William Joseph Smittle on July 4, 1937. He preceded her in death.

Freda worked as a nurse’s aide.

She is survived by five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons; three sisters and one brother.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Columbus.

Friends may call today from noon to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials in her name may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
