Wilma Elizabeth Backhus, 93, Yates Center, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at Burlington.

Wilma was born Nov. 5, 1916 in rural Woodson County in the Belmont Township, the daughter of Elmer and Clara Fuhlhage Lauber. She graduated from Yates Center High School with the Class of 1934.

On Sept. 28, 1941 Wilma was united in marriage to August Herman Backhus in Iola. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1990.

Wilma is survived by her children, Gary Backhus, and Karen Backhus, both of Wichita, and Steve Smith , Eureka; and one grandchild.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today, Sept. 14, A.M., at Yates Center Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church and sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783
