Mrs. Juanita Mae Sperry, wife of the late Warren Dale Sperry, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in Lakewood, Colorado on September 23, 2010. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 12, 1922 in El Dorado, KS, the daughter of William S. and Ethel Huff.
Like other young women in the “greatest generation”, she contributed to the war effort helping to build airplanes for Boeing Aircraft & by working as a telephone operator.
She was an active member of the Chanute community, teaching Bible classes, volunteering her time at the hospital and blood drives. She was also a long time member of the Today’s Concerns Link at the First United Methodist Church.
Juanita is survived by her only son, William Sperry (Barbara) of Littleton, Colorado, 5 grandchildren, Belinda, Brenna, Shannon, James & Amy Sperry, 5 great-grandchildren, Leila Waters, Kiley, Katie & Tyler Rorick, Taylor Harker, Coehen & Talhen Sperry. She was also blessed with a great-great grandchild, Gauge Waters, born on Juanita’s birthday.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William S & Ethel Huff & her two brothers, John & Jim Huff.
A viewing will be held in Littleton, Colorado.
A memorial service will be held in Chanute, Kansas at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 29 at 10:30 a.m.. Burial will follow at the Chanute Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Food Pantry c/o First United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
