George Richard Shay, 67, Fredonia, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at Galicia Heart Hospital in Wichita. He was born July 15, 1943 in Neodesha, the son of Warren William and Frankie Parks Shay.

George retired from the U.S. Army after serving 24 years.

On June 5, 1993 in Parsons, he married Carrie J. Stipp. She survives, at the home.

Also surviving are three stepsons, Rick, Patrick and Jason, West Virginia; a daughter, Vanicee Nichols, Texas; brothers Bud Shay, Texas, Bob Shay, Fredonia, Frank Shay, Fredonia, Mike Shay, Altoona; sisters Murdene Weatherby, Fredonia, Nellie Claibourne, Fredonia, Linda Crain, Fredonia; and seven grandchildren.

Cremation has been requested. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. at Fredonia City Cemetery, with military honors presented by Fort Riley. Memorials have been suggested to the VFW and may be left with Countryside Funeral Home, P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, KS 66736.
