On Saturday, the Chanute High School chess team traveled to the first Coffeyville Black Knights Chess Classic, taking first place as a team. Out of 12 members participating, nine brought home a medal: Ethan Burnett, first; Ben Blakesley, fourth; Eric Erbe, fifth; Jacob Hurtado, sixth; Brayden Baker, eighth; Mark Davidson Jr., 12th; Imerson Vaughan, 16th; Logan McMillan, 17th; and Alex Kennedy, 18th. “This season has been an absolute grind,” said Coach Kyle Gregg in a Facebook post. “We’ve taken on more tournaments than ever before, pushing ourselves to new levels of competition.
