Luke Lawrence Johnson, 39, of Sarasota, Florida, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The son of Kurt and Felecia Johnson was born Sept. 3, 1985, in Chanute. He graduated from Chanute High School in 2004. Luke was active in theater and performed in many productions in both Chanute High School and Chanute Community Theater.
He was also an accomplished singer, winning many state music awards. Luke continued his education at Friends University in Wichita, singing and touring with The Singing Quakers across the country and in Germany. After earning a bachelor’s degree in music theater with honors in 2008, he continued his education at Kansas State University, receiving a master’s degree in theater in 2010.
For the next several years, Luke worked at the Crown Uptown Theater in Wichita, performing in many productions there. He later took a job at the Florida Studio Theater in Sarasota, Florida, as the company manager and became the “Voice of FST,” doing voice overs for announcements and commercials. He was employed there until his death.
Luke is survived by his parents and his sister, Abby Johnson, of Chanute, his aunts and uncles David and Dairlee Bideau, Stan and Merett Ross, and Athena Johnson. He is also survived by his cousins Heath (Emma), Callan Bideau, Adam Bideau, Kenna Bideau-Kepley (Spencer), Jessamy, Tierney, Cameron and Ansley Ross, and Alicia Johnson Turner (Clint).
A reception for friends and family will be held at the Fire Escape Coffee House on March 29 at 1 p.m. The family suggests memorials be sent to Tri-Valley Developmental Center, P.O. Box 518, Chanute, Kansas.
