WINFIELD — Competing in the Winfield Invitational, the Chanute Blue Comets finished seventh as a team in boys tennis action on Thursday.
Parsons scored 137 points in the open tournament to win first place. Winfield was runner-up with 119 points, followed by Independence (117), Collegiate (112), Arkansas City (110) and Newton (109) rounding out the top-six.
In singles, Arthur Schmitt won his first match over Dax Henderson of Augusta, 8-4, before falling to G. Farha of Collegiate in the second round, 8-0.
On the backside of the bracket, Schmitt lost to Ethan Downey of Newton, 8-4, and Zach Scott of Independence before winning the 15th-place match over Brennan Williams of Haven, 8-3.
Kemper Manly lost his first match in singles play to Vihaan Ganganala of Collegiate, 8-0, before moving to the consolation bracket. Manly won his first match on the backside over Gage Prichard of Winfield before falling to Zach Pieper of Arkansas City.
In doubles play, Ethan Burnett and Ayden Cummings won their first two matches over Pittsburg and Independence before losing to another Independence team in the quarterfinals.
On the backside, Burnett and Cummings took sixth place, beating Haven before losing to Parsons.
Luke Becknell and Logan Bilby won their first match over Wellington before falling to Parsons’ Conner Barcus and Cole Kennett in the second round. On the backside, Becknell and Bilby los to Newton before beating Augusta to finish in 13th.
