Blue Comets finish third at Red Devil Classic

ERIE — Hosting the annual Red Devil Volleyball Classic, Erie welcomed a slew of area teams to its gym on Saturday afternoon.

Girard captured first place in the tournament, with Lebo taking second and Chanute third.

In the first session of pool play, Erie went 0-2.

Erie lost to Fort Scott, 2-0 (25-23, 25-18). Kylie Hodgden and Jacksen Powell each led the Red Devils with five kills apiece.

The Red Devils then lost to Frontenac, 2-0 (25-18, 25-12). Powell paced Erie with four kills while Rylee Palser and Hodgden chipped in three each. Chanute went 1-1 in the first pool play session, opening with a 2-0 (25-15, 25-18) win over Fredonia.

The Blue Comets then lost to Lebo, 2-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-23).

Parsons went 0-2 in the first pool play session.

The Vikings opened with a 2-0 (25-16, 25-23) loss to Neodesha before falling to Girard, 2-0 (25-20, 25-19).

In the second session of pool play, Chanute defeated Erie, 2-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-19). Powell tallied nine kills for Erie while Hodgden added five.

Chantue then took down Neodesha, 2-0 (25-13, 25-19).

Neodesha ended the second pool with a 2-0 (25-15, 25-16) win over Erie. Powell again led the Red Devils with seven kills.

Parsons secured its only win of the tournament in the second session of pool play, defeating SEK League foe Fort Scott, 2-0 (25-19, 25-23). Parsons then dropped to Lebo, 2-0 (2516, 25-15).

In the consolation pool, Parsons lost to Neodesha, 2-1 (3028, 15-25, 25-13) and Frontenac, 2-0 (25-22, 25-17). Those results left the Vikings with a sixth-place finish.

In the championship pool, Chanute went 0-2, falling to Lebo, 2-1 (25-018, 13-25, 25-19) and Girard, 2-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-14). That gave the Blue Comets a third-place finish for their efforts.
