The Leamona Family Community and Education held its April meeting recently with President Janis Reinhardt calling the meeting to order.
Mary Dunn presented the lesson “Appreciating Generational Differences”. The lesson was divided into generations: the Greater Generation, 1900-1926; the Traditional Silent Generation, 1927-1945; Baby Boomers, 1946-1964; Generation X, 1965-1979; Millennials, 1980-1999; and Generation Zoomers, 1996-2010.
Discussion was held about what influences each generation. The Traditional suffered from World War II — they were the first group that heard the radio and saw the silver screen. They were hard working, and appreciated what they had, which was very little. Baby Boomers had the Hippies and Yuppies. Through the television they saw the moon landing. They were hard working but liked recognition, and they balanced many responsibilities. Generation X were latchkey kid friendly; had cable TV; shopped for bargains and used the internet to research. They also had an increased divorce rate. Millennials were into cell phones, dot.com businesses, and career advancement. They were willing to question authority and very dependent on technology. Club members found that they had lived through a time where people washed off aluminum or tin foil and reused lots of things rather than throw away.
In the business meeting it was decided that it was not really possible to use “autism” as the community project so it was voted that members would continue donating items to Credo for their project. Leamona FCE will meet on May 1, in Parsons, for Recognition Day at 9 a.m. On May 8, the regular monthly meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Edie Godiniz will provide a lesson on air fryers.
