NCCC Trustees approve bids for construction, groundskeeping

The Neosho County Community College (NCCC) Board of Trustees held a special meeting during its Spring Retreat on Wednesday, April 23.

The trustees approved a bid from Loyd Builders in Ottawa, KS, in the amount of $297,384.00 for the renovation of the Wellness Center, pending the receipt of a donation from the Strahm family.

Thanks to a donation from the family of NCCC Baseball alumnus, Matt Strahm, this project will provide upgraded equipment and improved training facilities for student-athletes and the broader campus community. The building will be renamed the Strahm Family Strength Center, nicknamed “The Spot.”

The renovation will include replacing the existing interior walls with hardened sheetrock and an Acrovyn panel on the lower half of the walls to eliminate damage from weights, all new rubberized flooring with NC branding, new lighting with an open ceiling concept, and the removal of the existing wall that splits the north half from the south half. The exterior will be replaced with a façade made of EFIS and brick similar to the Mitchell Career and Technology Center, and a new entrance into the facility will be constructed.

Work is expected to begin soon, with completion projected for the Fall 2025 semester.

Trustees also approved a bid from Bones Landscape Company in Ottawa, for approximately $55,830 over 35 months beginning May 1, 2025 and ending April 1, 2028. It was the only bid received.

Services will include a total of 84 mows, mulching, trimming, snow removal, and ice melt application.
