Q: What inspired you to enter into a career in education?
A:I always loved learning, and I had a brother who struggled with school. I would help my brother with his school work, and I fell in love with helping others learn.
Q: Where are you from?
A: We raised our family in Salina. We moved to Chanute to be closer to our kids and grandkids. Our son and his family live in Chanute, and my daughter and her family live in Gardner.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your job?
A: The students are my absolute favorite thing about my job. I always say I have the best job in the world because the students are excited to come to school each day, and we get lots of hugs and high-fives in the hallway.
Q: Are there any challenges you have faced in your role?
A: The challenges are seeing other families who are struggling to do the best they can and do not have enough resources to support them. Sparkwheel has been a great addition to Lincoln. Amy Hendrickson has been a blessing to many families this year.
Q: How has your career evolved over time?
A: Education has changed over the years, and the positive thing is that Early Childhood is seen as the first milestone to a child’s success in their academic career. Early Childhood gives the students the social skills to function in the classroom and outside of the classroom.
Q: Why is education important?
A: Education is important because everyone needs to be able to understand and participate in society. Education can open new avenues for everyone so they can expand their knowledge and find their area of interest in their future life choices.
Q: What do you enjoy outside of work?
A: I enjoy spending time outside with my family and exploring new places with my husband. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or just a walk in nature, I love making memories together and experiencing new things.
Q: What about your homelife?
A: My husband and I have been married for 40 years. He is self-employed and grew up in a small community like I did. This shaped the strong family values we both share. Our children are grown and have blessed us with six wonderful grandchildren, and we are so grateful to be a part of their lives. We also have a very spoiled German Shorthair dog named Festus, who keeps us entertained and loved.
