The Humboldt Community Garage Sales will be Saturday, May 3.

G.A.L.S. FCE

G.A.L.S. FCE held their April 21 meeting in the Fellowship Hall of Humboldt Methodist Church with 11 members present.

President Carol Bauer reviewed pertinent information from the KAFCE Newsletter and gave a brief update on the location of the Holiday Market. She stated the Humboldt High School cafeteria and foyer has been reserved for December’s event on the first Saturday; other details will be addressed in the future.

Following up on the request for Middle School picnic tables from last month, members voted to pledge $500 in collaboration with the PTO’s fundraising efforts, when tables are ordered. Members also voted to be available to work three nights in the concession stand at Sweatt Field during the summer ball season.

Nancy Weilert gave the lesson, ‘Nourishing the Brain: Nutritional Recommendations for Combatting Neurodegenerative Diseases’. A balanced eating plan can support the tasks that brains perform every day, the Lesson Series emphasized, including balance, posture, coordination and breathing. Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins B and D, along with suggested herbs and spices can optimize brain health staving off neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

GALS recorded 28 volunteer hours and contributed $24.75 to the Milk Voucher Project. In May, the meeting will be May 19 in the Fellowship Hall where Amanda Ames will give a timely lesson on ‘Protect Your Skin from the Sun’. Guests are welcome to attend this or any monthly meeting; contact a GALS members and get involved with some worthy community projects.
