HHS wins journalism championship for 15th year
The Humboldt High School journalism program has won its 15th consecutive Kansas Scholastic Press Association Class 3A state journalism championship. HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt High School journalism program has won its 15th consecutive Kansas Scholastic Press Association Class 3A state journalism championship. The Cubs took the top spot this year with 86 points, followed by Halstead in second place with 80 points while Jefferson West finished in third place with 52 points.

“It is such an honor to be a part of this program,” said Sophia Barlow, editor-in-chief of The Cub yearbook, who won several state awards. “I am so proud of everyone who participated in our 15th consecutive state win. I am sad to be leaving the program but I know it is in great hands. Congratulations everyone!”

“I am so incredibly proud of my students for their monumental accomplishment,” said Hailey Phillips, HHS journalism teacher. “To be able to win the state championship is a huge feat, let alone 15 straight championships. My Jerds (journalism nerds) definitely put in the work and dedication to write compelling stories, capture eye-catching photos, design stunning graphics and much more. They are so deserving of this state championship and recognition.”
