Chanute boys win Thad Clements Invitational

Hosting the annual Thad Clements Invitational track and field meet on Friday, the Chanute Blue Comets boys took first place as a team while the girls finished runner-up.

Chanute scored 174 points on the boys’ side, more than doubling runner-up Pittsburg, which scored 83 points.

Coffeyville finished in third place on the boys’ side with 77 points, followed by Labette County (72), Parsons (63), Independence (53), St. Mary’s Colgan (38), Iola (38), Southeast (32), Frontenac (31), Fort Scott (19), Columbus (16), Hartford (8) and Edmond Memorial (8).

Labette County claimed the title in the girls’ standings with 172 points. Chanute registered 126 points to win second place, followed by Southeast (59), St. Mary’s Colgan (56), Coffeyville (54), Parsons (52), Frontenac (50), Pittsburg (37), Independence (37), Fort Scott (35), Hartford (7), Columbus (7) and Iola (6).

Top-three individual finishers for Chanute included Eliott Stephenson claiming third in the 400m dash (50.14), third in the long jump (21-3) and second in the 800m run (2:02.43).

Tyler Rowden won the 800m run (2:01). Jaron Powers claimed first in the 1,600m run, posting a time of 4:35.61.

Chanute’s boys 4x400m relay team won first with a time of 3:26, 10 seconds better than runner-up Independence. The boys’ 4x800m relay also won with a time of 8:18.

Easton Colborn won the high jump, posting a new personal best with a mark of 6-5. Daniel Stanley claimed third in the event, clearing 6-0.

Jarvis Chatmon was third in the triple jump with a mark of 40-10 and third in the pole vault (10-6).

Owen Luttrell won the javelin by over three feet with a mark of 175-2. Canton Fitzmaurice was runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 49-9.5.

Laney Hillmon was runner-up in the 400m dash (1:01.48) while Sarah Uhner was third in the same event (1:02.40).

Violet Stich was runner-up in the 800m run (2:30). Macie Moore won the 3,200m run with a time of 13:08.

Madison DeCoster placed second in the 100m hurdles (17.81). Chanute’s girls 4x100m relay team finished third with a time of 52.48 seconds.

The girls 4x400m relay squad was runner- up (4:14) while the 4x800m relay team won the race (10:10).

Kiya Brown was third in the high jump (4-10) while Jarynn Hockett earned third in the pole vault (8-0).

Averee Hicks also claimed third in the discus (96-5) and javelin (122-2).
