Court dismisses attempted murder charge

A charge of attempted second- degree murder has been dismissed against a Chanute woman.

Katherine M. Stanislaus, Chanute, was charged in Neosho County District Court with attempted murder in the second degree, an upper-level felony punishable upon conviction by a minimum of 55 months in prison.

In February, Chanute police responded to the 1000 block of South Denman Avenue for a disturbance.

After an investigation, officers arrested Holly Miller, 55, Chanute, for domestic battery and arrested Stanislaus for aggravated domestic battery and attempted murder in the second degree, according to a social media post by Chanute police.

Miller never faced a criminal charge in district court.

On April 16, Magistrate Judge Melissa Dugan signed a journal entry of dismissal in Stanislaus’ case.

The dismissal was filed a day after a bond modification journal entry that allowed Stanislaus to have contact with witnesses and victims in the case.
