High Prairie Pioneers 4-H discuss ongoing projects, upcoming fairs

On Sunday, May 18, at the High Prairie Church, President Tatum Francis called to order the May meeting of the High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club. Flag Leader Jones Bilby then led the club in the flag salute and the 4-H pledge. Song leader Cheyanne Gloshen led the club in singing “Mary had a Little Lamb.”

Secretary Delanie Stich conducted roll call with the question “Have you started your 4-H projects,” Which was answered by 14 members and two leaders. Members then read the minutes from the April meeting.

Acting Treasurer Delanie Stich gave the treasurer’s report. Reporter Hunter Reaves gave the reporter’s report. No Parliamentarian or 4-H Council reports were given.

Leader Kimberly Francis stated to the club that everyone should have received the newsletter and needed to pay attention to the changes in the fair schedule and upcoming events. Fair Entry should be open for online enrollment very soon. Members will have the opportunity to do fair promotions on the radio or possibly social media. Wildcat Challenge Day will be June 2 at the First National Bank in Fredonia’s 4-H Learning Center. If anyone needs help with their projects, they can always ask the leaders for help.

Leader Danielle Stich reminded the members if they have animals and want to sell them at the fair, they must attend two livestock meetings and there are only two left, May 29 and June 22 and to remember Greenbush camps are coming up if they want to attend.

For committee reports Kimberly Francis said the church painting project committee needed to meet after the meeting to plan for dates to paint the propane tank and basketball goal at the church.

There was no old business. In new business, Kimberly Francis informed the club that organizing and conducting the Style Revue was the club’s responsibility this year. The club voted to form a committee to plan for the Style Revue and asked members to sign up for it after the meeting.

Acting Vice President Hunter Reaves announced the program. Tracen Francis gave a project talk about shooting sports and demonstrated to the club the different positions you can use when shooting a gun and some safety tips when handling firearms. Timbrel Francis gave a talk over her goat project and showed the club her goat, Peaches, and demonstrated how to show goats and gave some basic information on how to care for them Recreation leader Timbrel Francis led the club in playing “Sharks and Minnows” a tag game.

Leader Kimberly Francis had the members who had brought a pencil and paper to take notes to pick a number between 1-15 and Delanie Stich won the prize. The Spirit Stick was given to Hunter Reaves for stepping in as Vice President. The members were reminded that the Wilson County Fair Rodeo will be May 23-24.

The meeting was adjourned with the 4-H motto. After the meeting the club had refreshments provided by the Miller and Stich families.
