EUDORA — Falling one win shy of a berth to the state softball tournament, the Chanute Blue Comets competed in the KSHSAA 4A Regional in Eudora, beating Holton, 4-2, in the semifinals before losing to top-seeded Eudora, 13-0, in the championship on Wednesday.
In the semifinals against Holton, the Blue Comets overcame a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth frame.
Chanute tallied four hits but drew six walks at the plate. Ava Teichgraeber had one hit and two walks.
Aly Splechter notched three RBIs, including a two-RBI double in the fourth.
Avery Dean, hurling 90 pitches, threw all seven innings with three strikeouts and seven hits allowed.
As for the championship loss to Eudora, Chanute was held to two hits by pitcher Sam Claire, who tossed all five frames with nine strikeouts.
Emily Cunningham was charged with the loss in the circle, throwing one inning with three hits and as many runs allowed.
Reece Norris and Mylee Miller accounted for the Blue Comets’ only two hits.
With the win and the loss, Chanute’s final record stands at 14-11 for the spring campaign.
