George William Riker Jr.

George William Riker Jr.

George William Riker Jr., 91, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025. Born on Oct. 31, 1933, in Chanute, George lived a long, full life marked by generosity and kindness to all who knew him.

He was the son of George William Riker Sr. and Gladys Case. Following in his father’s footsteps, George began a lifelong career with the Santa Fe Railroad, dedicating 45 years to the company with the same steady work ethic and integrity his family was known for.

George graduated from Chanute High School in 1952 and soon after married the love of his life, Meredith Masters, on October 1, that year. Together, they shared 72 years of marriage — years filled with devotion, laughter, and enduring partnership.

He was a proud father to Glenda, Ted, Lana, and Tye. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren — Jay Newell, James Newell, John Worley Jr., Colt Worley, Caitlin Worley, Alec Riker, Connor Riker, and Will Riker — and great-grandchildren: Tristyn, Larissa, Brynn Newell, Dax Mann, and Blake Riker.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Newell, and his brothers, Robert Riker and David Riker.

George found joy in the simple things — playing cards with his longtime friends Lloyd Drybread and Glenn Wrestler, golfing, and being outdoors. He especially enjoyed mowing lawns — not just his own, but often for neighbors and friends, particularly widows and those in need. He had a servant’s heart and never hesitated to help others, often quietly and without seeking recognition.

He was known for his warm smile and easygoing nature. George’s generosity, loyalty, and humble spirit left a lasting impression on his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

George is lovingly remembered by his extended family, including John Worley (husband of daughter Lana), Jason Mann (husband of granddaughter Caitlin), Ally Choi (wife of grandson Colt Worley), Christine Newell (wife of grandson James Newell), and Brianna Riker (wife of grandson Alec Riker.)

There will be no formal funeral service. However, friends and loved ones are warmly invited to share their memories of George in their own way, in honor of the life he lived and the kindness he shared.
