Chanute Business and Professional Women met Wednesday, May 14, for their regular meeting with Tayah Williams as Hostess. Tayah presented a program from a National BPW magazine article “Feminism and Motherhood” in conjunction with Mother’s Day, which is recognized the second Sunday in May.
According to Williams, motherhood is considered the heart of feminism. However, motherhood should be a choice, Williams said. She said It is not a true “one size fits all” role, and that every family is different. Williams said one misconception is that stay-athome moms are expected to do everything as a care-giver and do all the household tasks; but Tayah said those tasks should be shared if there is another parent in the picture.
Following her presentation, Williams assisted her baby, Prestyn, who just turned 1 in opening gifts given by members.
President Sharon Carpenter reported that she had mailed the Publicity Notebook and that Fran Graham State Chairperson had received it. Sharon Matlock, will be listed in the memorial at the state convention posthumously. It was noted that the husband of a past member, Shirley Bailey, had also recently passed away. Carpenter reported that she shared information with some of the residents at Credo Assisted Living from the program that Linda Powers gave in April and no one was too excited about flying taxis.
Jen Brown announced that she attended the State Convention in Salina. The slate of officers was voted on and approved for 2025-2026. Kathy Williams will perform the Installation of Officers.
The next meeting will be June 11, with Jen Brown as hostess. For more information regarding the Chanute BPW contact President Sharon Carpenter at 620-431-8532.
