A new law office has officially opened in Chanute. On Friday, June 6, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was hosted by the Chanute Area Chamber of Commerce and Chanute Main Street to celebrate the new satellite office of a Leavenworth-based business, Bateman Law Group.

Aimee Bateman, whom the practice is named for said that the business has a combined total of 150 years of experience in the field of law.

“We’re excited to join the community of Chanute,” Bateman said.

According to Bateman, Galesburg native and Erie resident Tyler Robertson will be the primary attorney based in the Chanute office. He will be supported by Stephanie Stirewalt, a paralegal of eight years. Robertson said he decided to pursue a career as an attorney because he observed there was a need for more attorneys in He also noticed there was also a need for younger attorneys, as many in the region are in the later years of their careers.

“I want to do good here in the community,” Robertson said. “I’m really happy to be here.”

Robertson said he hopes the office can be a hub for the community, and that people feel welcome to stop in. Robertson said he also hopes that people will feel listened to.

“I am proud to be a part of this law firm. I believe in the legal experience we have, and I am glad we can bring it to Chanute,” Stirewalt said.

According to Robertson, the office will be a general practice, with plans to specialize in bankruptcy law. He said he also anticipates that many of his cases will involve family law, with some criminal or civil cases on occasion.

Chanute Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amy Jensen said she was excited to have Bateman Law Group in Chanute and extended her congratulations.

City Commissioner Tim Egner said it is always exciting to have a new business come to town, and that the region could use a few more lawyers.

“I am thrilled for the turnout we have for this ribbon cutting, and to have this business downtown,” Chanute Main Street Director Ruthann Boatwright said. “They are going to bring a wide array of legal services to the community, and it is always nice to have another storefront downtown.”
