Judith K. Stephenson, 82, passed away at Homestead of Crestview Assisted Living in Wichita, Kansas on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Judy was born on Jan. 6, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois, daughter of Fred and Mary (Sapp) Welch. She moved to Chanute with her family at 5 years of age and attended the local schools. She then graduated from Chanute Senior High School in 1961. She then furthered her education attending Lee College in Cleveland Tennessee from 1962 to 1963.
On Sept. 29, 1972, Judy married Richard S. Stephenson in Chanute. They then moved to Andover in 1980 and resided there for 28 years before moving to Augusta in 2009. While living in Augusta, Judy attended Grace Pointe Church.
Judy is survived by son, Ronald L. Allensworth of Wichita, daughter, Kimberly M. Rybak of O’Fallon, Missouri. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Debbie Bradford of Chanute, and Sharon Sutton of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stephenson, stepson, Dennis Stephenson, sisters, Karen Crumbliss and Elaine Kauffman, and brother, Larry Roberts. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home and Funeral Services will be held at Countryside Funeral, 101 N. Highland Ave. in Chanute on Friday, June 20, at 10 a.m., with burial immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
