Charlotte May Ellison, 69, of Chanute, passed away peacefully at Diversicare on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Born Aug. 4, 1955, in Topeka, Kansas, to Lewis and Mary (Yockey) Oneslager, Charlotte’s life was a testament to her unwavering strength, compassion, and devotion to her family.
Charlotte graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in Overbrook, Kansas, in 1973. On Nov. 8, 1986, she married the love of her life, Larry Eugene Ellison, in Chanute. Their 19 years together were filled with love and happiness before his passing on July 14, 2006.
Charlotte dedicated many years to caring for others as a CNA and CMA at Heritage Healthcare and Diversicare of Chanute. Following her retirement from nursing, she opened and successfully operated a daycare for nine years, further showcasing her nurturing spirit. Family was always her utmost priority; she was the unwavering rock and pillar of strength for her loved ones.
A member of the Verdigris Valley Christian Church in Altoona, Charlotte found solace and community in her faith. In her leisure time, she enjoyed the quiet pleasures of crocheting and making crafts of all kinds.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Ellison; her daughter, Beatrice Ellison; and her parents, Lewis and Mary Oneslager. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be cherished by her children: James (Ana) Ellison of Urich, Missouri; Lewis (Lorissa) Ellison of Neodesha; Roxanne (Rick) Maloney of Bronson; and Cindy Bass of Walnut,; her 14 grandchildren; and her brother, Gary Oneslager of Lawrence.
Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 17, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute at 10 a.m.
