Barbara Ruth Deane (nèe Allison), 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 in Wichita.
Barbara was born on March 23, 1938 in Chanute, the daughter of Marion J. and Nola Ruth Allison.
She grew up in Chanute and graduated from Chanute High School before continuing her education at Wichita State University. Barbara pursued a career in journalism, beginning as a reporter and photojournalist at the Chanute Tribune. Her passion for language and communication later led her to serve as an editor at Beta Sigma Phi in Kansas City, where her analytical mind and editorial precision left a lasting impact.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Daniel and wife, Kathy, daughter, Lorie, her grandchildren, Alex and Allison Deane and Allison’s husband, David, great grandson, Zia, and her brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Evelyn Allison; nieces, Carolyn Hatcher (and husband, Steven), Debra Lawrence, Sandy Rausch, and Terry Love, and nephews, Tom (and wife, Donna) and Rick Blancett. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Marion J.; her mother, Nola Ruth; her brother, Alfred Allison; her stepbrother, Warren Alford; her stepsister, Pearl Blancett; and her nephew, Marion Jay Allsion.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at Countryside Funeral Home. Services have been entrusted with Countryside Funeral Home.
