Whitetails & Wildlife Museum to unveil sculpture by acclaimed artist
HUMBOLDT – With one of the world’s largest collections of white-tailed deer, more than 1,500 guests have already visited the Whitetails & Wildlife Museum since opening Jan, 8. A new white-tailed deer bust by an internationally renowned sculptor is expected to draw even more attention to this museum.
The bust is 1.5 times larger than a real white-tailed deer, and is more than five feet tall. It will be unveiled at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 in front of the museum, located at 715 New York Street in Humboldt, Kansas.
The sculptor is award winning Fred Boyer, a former hunting guide, smokejumper and firefighter, whose sculptures have graced the homes of former president George W. Bush and General Norman Schwarzkopf, as well as galleries around the world. Boyer is considered a living legend in wildlife sculpting. He is scheduled to make the trip from his Montana home to attend and speak at the unveiling.
The sculpture was commissioned by the museum’s benefactor and local businessman, Max Rickerson. Rickerson sees his work at the museum growing, with more plans and improvements scheduled to be added.
Regular hours for Saturday, June 28, are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the reveal event at 1 p.m.
