Gregory Mark Taylor

Gregory Mark Taylor

WICHITA — Gregory Mark Taylor, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in Wichita.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1954, to Robert Taylor and Audrey (Anderson) Taylor. Greg lived a life rich in love, adventure, and dedication, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of kindness.

Greg was a proud graduate of the Chanute High School class of 1972 and furthered his education at Emporia State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 1976. His career began with his work as an engineer for the SKOL Railroad, but his passion for the environment led him to serve as an environmental scientist for the State of Kansas. In both roles, he demonstrated a commitment to his work and community, showcasing the same dedication he had in all aspects of his life.

On March 30, 1985, Greg married the love of his life, Arlene Johnson, in Chanute. Their marriage was a true partnership, built on love and support that lasted nearly four decades. Greg stood by Arlene’s side, caring for her deeply, especially during her illness. He was the embodiment of a dedicated spouse, always prioritizing her needs and wellbeing.

Greg was preceded in death by his dear wife Arlene, who he missed dearly following her passing.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Lynsey Cation, and her partner, Chad Oliverson, of Wichita. Greg found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Cooper Cation of the home, who brought light and laughter into his life. He also leaves behind his brother, Lyle Taylor, of Pratt, with whom he shared many fond memories.

An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Greg relished in the activities that connected him to nature. He was passionate about deer hunting and fishing, often sharing these experiences with family and friends. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his appreciation for music, particularly classic rock. Whether at concerts or enjoying his favorite tunes at home, these moments brought him great joy.

Greg was an active member of the Elks Lodge, where he built friendships and contributed to his community. His kind and loving spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered as a person who always reached out to help those in need.

Special trips to places like Alaska and Norway created lasting memories for Greg, enriching his life with adventure and exploration. He lived life to the fullest, embracing every opportunity with open arms and an open heart.

In honor of Greg’s memory, the family requests that donations be made to the South Central Community Foundation, an organization that reflects his commitment to community service and the well-being of others.

A Celebration of Greg’s life is being organized, his obituary will be updated on Countryside Funeral Home’s website once the date and time have been scheduled. Everyone is encouraged to wear camouflage in honor of Greg.

As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that Greg’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and in the memories we hold dear. His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will forever be a part of us.
