Ron “Quick Draw” Chittenden – beloved son, father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather – passed away peacefully with both of his kids at his side early morning on July 13, 2025. He had just turned 81.
He was born on July 8, 1944, at his childhood home in Chanute to Agnes L. (Glover) and Rolla F. Chittenden, and spent his entire life in Chanute. Since childhood, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother Don. After graduating in 1962 from Chanute High School, he entered the Naval Reserves and served in Florida where he was involved with monitoring hurricanes through 1968. He had various jobs around town retiring from a very long career working for the City of Chanute Gas department.
He will be remembered for his love of fishing, writing poetry where he is even a published author, his paintings and drawings, how much he loved to mow his lawn and also his love for playing lotto where he was very known at just about every station in town for playing Keno and other lotto games. Very known for always doing things his way regardless, you could always expect him to say exactly how he felt yet at the same time be one of the first to help if he could. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, some even from his childhood.
He is survived by his daughter Casey (Chittenden) Pilley, son Colbey Chittenden, brother Donald (Chip) Chittenden, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, and three nephews and a niece. He is preceded in death by his parents Agnes (Glover) and Rolla Chittenden, brothers Ed and Frank Russell. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local Veterans association or an art program in his name. Memorials can be left with Countryside Funeral Home. Ron did not want a service for his passing.
