PARSONS — Frankie A. “John Wayne” Reyes, 91, of Parsons, passed away the afternoon of Friday, July 18, 2025, at his home.
Frankie Alfred Reyes was born on June 17, 1934, to Angel and Luciana (Lazarin) Reyes in Cherryvale. He grew up and attended school in Parsons and Cherryvale. After graduating from high school, Frankie joined the United States Air Force.
For over 50 years, Frankie owned and operated Frank Reyes Plumbing. Throughout those years, he also worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, for the state of Kansas on a highway crew, the Katy Railroad, Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, and at Customs in Chanute.
An accomplished baseball player, in 2004 Frankie was inducted into the Mexican American Hall of Fame for Fastpitch. He also enjoyed playing basketball, golf and pool. Known for his generous spirit, Frankie loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Frankie Reyes, Jr., of Fall River; Joseph Reyes and his wife, Jennifer, of Neodesha; Adrian Reyes of Overland Park; Two daughters, Christina Johnson of Independence; Berlinda Wisecup of Xena, Ohio; Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Reyes, on December 10, 2021; one daughter, Tina Bynum; three granddaughters, Dawn Wisecup, Christina Bynum, Amanda Cook; three brothers, Angel Sierra, Lucio Reyes, and Joe Lopez; and three sisters, Cuca Maria Lopez, Maria Louisa Fuentez, and Lupe Cervantes.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
