Dorothy Jeanette Ford, 95 passed away at Diversicare in Chanute on Monday July 21, 2025.
Dorothy was born on March 15, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas to Lee and Edna (Harrison) Hall. She graduated from high school in 1947 in Benedict, Kansas. She then went on to earn her teaching certificate from Neosho County. On Aug. 15, 1948, she married Bernard Ford, the two were married 40 years until his passing on March 7, 1989.
Dorothy was a bookkeeper for several area businesses, retiring from Elsmore Grain and Feed Inc. in 2002. She was an active member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church many years, serving as the treasurer and board member. Dorothy loved to crochet, spend time with her family at Grand Lake, and travel. She traveled to Europe twice and took numerous bus trips.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, and one brother, and two sisters.
Dorothy will be remembered for her quick wit, and unique sense of humor. She is survived by her two children, Linda Carter and Allen Ford, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, at 1 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home with burial immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in Dorothy’s name to Castaways Animal Shelter and Sanctuary. Memorial can be left with Countryside Funeral Home.
