KBI arrests Erie man for child sex crimes

ERIE –The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Erie man for child sex crimes.

On Wednesday, July 30, around 7:40 a.m., KBI agents and the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42-yearold registered sex offender Peter Hawkinson, of Erie. Hawkinson was arrested for 24 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of violating Kansas offender registration after a search warrant was conducted at 22030 Ottawa Road in Erie.

The KBI Child Victims Unit began investigating after a cyber-tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in May.

Following the arrest, Hawkinson was booked into the Neosho County Jail. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME. Anonymous tips can be submitted online at www.kbi.ks.gov/sar.

The investigation is ongoing. The case is expected to be prosecuted by the Neosho County Attorney’s Office.
