SEKAAA Silver Haired Legislators attend Salina meeting

Silver Haired Legislators for the SEKAAA region attended the Silver Haired Legislature meeting in Salina.

SHL is a body of Seniors who identify issues important to adults 60 years of age or older, educate Kansas Legislators about those issues and present resolutions to the Kansas Legislature and Governor as recommendations for state policy. There are 11 SHL regions that match the counties covered by Area Agency on Aging. SEK Area Agency on Aging is Region 05 and covers Allen, Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson counties.

“Our local SHL group essentially dissolved during COVID and they are in a rebuilding stage,” SEKAAA Executive Director Kathy Brennon said. “While this is a separate organization from the Area Agency on Aging, we have the same mission to improve the lives of older Kansans. This is an important partnership and it helps us know what are the priorities of our citizens.”

There are openings in Labette, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson counties. If someone is interested in representing one of these counties or would like more information, they can contact Kathy Brennon, 620431-2980 or email Kathy. [email protected].
