Wilma Jean Lindsey, age 87, passed away July 29, 2025, at Heritage Health Care, Chanute. Jean was born Feb. 15, 1938, on a farm east of Humboldt to Lucile (Bale) and Arthur Elliott.
She attended Humboldt schools and graduated Humboldt High School in 1953. Jean was a Pep Club cheerleader and worked after school hours at Pickert’s soda fountain in Humboldt.
Jean worked for Boyer Oil in Iola, Kansas. She married Harold Lindsey September 2, 1955, at the Christian Church in Humboldt.
Jean and Harold moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was employed as a secretary with Sun Oil. Due to her attention to detail and perfection, she was promoted to the position of Executive Secretary with Sun Oil.
Jean and her husband, Harold, both loved to travel. After retirement they moved back to Humboldt, bought a motor home and set the road on fire traveling to many states in the United States.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on Aug. 19, 2014. She lost her parents, Arthur and Lucile Elliott; sisters, Edna Culp, Ruth Mueller, Lorieta Long; and brother, Arthur Eugene Elliott.
She is survived by sisters, Joan Snodgrass,Lawrence; Hazel Robb, Humboldt; and Judy Middendorf; along with many nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. A funeral service for Jean will be held at the Humboldt United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Humboldt Historical Society Museum or the Humboldt United Methodist Church, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
