Marjorie “Marge” Anne Carlson, age 95, formally of Chanute, departed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Aug. 13, 2025 at Asbury Village in Coffeyville.
Marjorie was born on May 9, 1930 to Walter and Lura (Ballard) Guenther in Miltonvale. Her family later moved to Benedict. She graduated from Benedict High School in 1948.
Marge met LaVerne William “Bill” Carlson at the north skating rink in Chanute, in February of 1950. They later were united in marriage on April 14, 1951 at her parent’s home in Benedict.
They made their home on their farm west of Chanute and raised their family there, instilling hard work and the love of family life. Bill and Marge were blessed with five children; Paula, Russell, Larry, Lorie and Barry. Bill passed away in April of 1992.Marge received her nursing assistant certificate and worked for Dr. Rollow in Chanute for several years. She worked for the school food service for the Chanute school district, first at Royster Junior High and then was the manager at Hutton school for 22 years until her retirement in 1995.
She loved spending time with her family and friends! Marge loved the Lord and was faithful in his ministry helping with Vacation Bible School, teaching Sunday school and being a great prayer warrior. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chanute and served in positions with Christian Woman’s Club. One of the things she loved the most was her card ministry, making cards and blessing people with birthday, anniversary greetings and encouragement brought her great joy over the years.
Left to honor her memory are her children — Paula Stites, Grantsburg, Wisconsin; Lorie and Derek Bale of Coffeyville, Kansas; Barry and Vicki Carlson of Hillsboro, Kansas and daughter in law Vickie Carlson of Nashville, Michigan. Her Grandchildren — Brad and Brenda Wheatley, Grantsburg, Wisconsin; Jay and Lanelle Darla, Midlothian, Virginia; Austin Bale of Coffeyville, Kansas; Logan and Leanne Burrus, Joplin, Missouri; Clete Carlson, Manhattan, Kansas; Emily and Kelly Robinson, Cumberland, Wisconsin; Janet Dallman, Cumberland, Wisconsin.
Her great-grand children — Isaac, Meghan, and Luke Darla, Midlothian, Virginia. Ashley, Dave, Nova and Koda Star, Darren, Steven, Matt and Elizabeth in Wisconsin.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Bill, sister Dorothy Olson, sons Larry Gale and Russell Dale Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church Good News Center on Wednesday, Aug. 20, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will take place at Vilas/Bethel Cemetery on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. where Marge will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
