ROCKFORD, Ill. — Nabbing three wins in Illinois to start the season, the Neosho County Panthers won, 3-0, against Palm Beach State, No. 3 Heartland and Lansing over the weekend. Neosho County also suffered a 3-0 loss to Pensacola State.
The Panthers’ loss to Pensacola State was its first match of the four-match showcase in Illinois. Pensacola State won, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-7), on Friday.
Brooke Galey paced Neosho County with seven kills. Sarah Wehrli had 11 assists while Jenna Monroe had seven digs.
Neosho County bounced back on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-23) victory over Palm Beach State.
Ella Bryan tallied nine kills for the Panthers while Galey chipped in eight. Galey also had a team-high 12 digs while Wehrli notched 15 assists.
In Sunday’s 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-20) upset over third-ranked Heartland, Bryan put on a show with 14 kills.
Trinity Collette amassed 27 digs while Sara Marzinot had 15 assists.
Facing Lansing to wrap up its opening set of matches, Neosho County won, 3-0 (2518, 25-17, 25-14).
Galey had 11 kills while Bryan, Emma Wheatley and Allison Clevenger added six apiece. Wehrli had 19 assists while Collette had 10 digs.
