High Prairie Pioneers 4-H releases summer reports

On Sunday, July 20, at the First National Bank in Fredonia, 4-H Learning Center at the Old Iron Club, President Tatum Francis called to order the July meeting of the High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club. Flag Leader Dawson Stich then led the club in the flag salute and the 4-H pledge.

Secretary Delanie Stich read the minutes from the June meeting and then conducted the roll call which was “What is your favorite part of the fair?”

It was answered by 18 members and three leaders.

Song leader Sienna Drumm-Williams led the club in singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”

Treasurer Gabe Engelman gave the treasurer’s report. Reporter Hunter Reaves gave the reporter’s report. Parliamentarian Oliver Bilby and Leader Andrew Engelman explained to the club what “New Business” consists of. Garrett Engelman, 4-H Council representative, reported that no meeting had been held since the last club meeting.

Leader Kimberly Francis told the members not to worry about the color of the ribbon and just do their best and reminded the club that there are a lot of changes in the fair schedule this year so have a copy handy and check it often.

Leader Andrew Engelman reminded the members that it will be hot and to remember to drink a lot of water and if they have animals to make sure they have water and to do their best and have fun ahead of the Neosho County Fair.

For committee reports, leader Danielle Stich told the members that the booth will be set up on Wednesday, July 23.

There was no old business. In new business, leader Danielle Stich presented a bill to the club for the booth supplies and birthday gift cards. The club voted to pay the bill.

The members discussed participating in Buffalo Homecoming and voted to walk in the parade. The club voted to have a record book workday with the date to be decided later by the parents. The club voted to hold the club tour on Friday, July 25 after the Dairy and Bucket Calf show.

There was no program. Recreation was a fair clean-up following the meeting, which was followed by a pool party sponsored by the fair association for all 4-H clubs in the county.

Leader Kimberly Francis reminded the membesr about the opportunity to volunteer at “Play Streets” on Aug. 2. The meeting was adjourned by the members saying the 4-H motto.

Following the meeting, the Williams and Francis families provided the refreshments.

On Sunday, Aug, 17, at the High Prairie Methodist Church, President Tatum Francis called to order the August meeting of the High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club. Flag Leader Jones Bilby then led the club in the flag salute and the 4-H pledge.

Secretary Delanie Stich read the minutes from the July meeting and then conducted the roll call which was “when is your Birthday?” and was answered by 20 members and three leaders.

Song leader Sienna Drumm-Williams led the club in singing “The Alphabet Song.”

Treasurer Gabe Engelman gave the treasurer’s report. Reporter Hunter Reaves gave the reporter’s report. Parliamentarian Oliver Bilby and Leader Andrew Engelman explained to the club “The proper way to make a Motion.” Garrett Engelman, 4-H Council representative, reported that no meeting had been held since the last club meeting.

Leader Kimberly Francis congratulated the club on all of their hard work and success at the fair and reminded the members whose projects qualified for the State Fair that they need to have them in the extension office by the deadline so the agents can take them to Hutchinson for the fair.

The members were also reminded to send Thank You cards to sponsors and buyers of awards and the livestock sale and now is the time to start working on 4-H record books which are due Sept. 30.

Leader Andrew Engelman stressed the importance of sending Thank You cards to the 4-H supporters. He said that no one likes filling out record books, but it is a skill everyone will need later in life. Engelman said that State Fair entries are due in the extension office Sept. 3.

The club discussed how to select officers for the new 4-H year coming up and decided to hold elections. Leader Kimberly Francis discussed when to hold the club’s fundraiser and 4-H Sunday and a tentative date of Sept. 20 was selected for the fundraiser and Sept. 14 for 4-H Sunday with the club’s meeting to follow.

Garrett Engelman announced the program. Tatum Francis gave a wildlife project talk entitled “Impact Tomorrow Today” about how to maximize your land for wildlife and hunting.

Gabe Engelman gave a talk on how to figure out the correct amount of feed to give your goats.

“Horse Wound Care” was the subject of Delanie Stich’s talk, which covered lacerations and snake bites.

Henry Crawshaw read the poem “Falling up” by Shel Silverstein.

Dawson Stich gave a talk about rebuilding a XR80 bike engine.

Naomi Black talked about her experiences and responsibilities at the State Geology Field Trip she went on this summer.

The program was followed by recreation leader Timbrel Francis having the members play Ships and Sailors.

Leader Kimberly Francis reminded the club that record books are due Sept. 30, and a date for members to work on record books and achievement pin forms before that date will be set later by the parents.

Committee members for painting the church’s propane tank and basketball goal were to meet after the meeting. The Spirit Stick was given to Tracen Francis for asking a question and participating during the meeting. Members who brought writing utensils picked a number between 35-72 with Jones Bilby selecting 68 to win.

The meeting was adjourned by the members hopping on one foot and saying the 4-H motto. Following the meeting the Bilby and Stich families provided the refreshments.
