Anita Morgan

Anita Morgan of Chanute, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 21 at the assisted living facility in Chanute where she lived. She was less than one month away from her 100th birthday.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1925 in Webb City, Missouri. After graduating high school in Commerce, Oklahoma, she helped at the family-owned service station on Route 66. It was in Commerce where she met Harry Morgan and they were married on June 11, 1948.

In her spare time as a wife, mother, and homemaker she was an avid bowler in both local and travel leagues, and even state and national tournaments. She also played an occasional game of golf in her younger years and even went to the driving range when she was 96!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry (19282009) and her eldest son Michael Lynn Morgan (19492023.)

Survivors include her youngest son, Eldon; three grandchildren – Mike Morgan (Sherri) in Shawnee; Kirk Morgan (Jessica) in Kirksville, Missouri; and Tara Morgan-Hill in Chanute. She also has seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home on Anita’s 100th birthday, Sept. 18, with the family greeting friends from 12-1p.m. The family will lay Anita to rest in a private family ceremony. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
