The Neosho County Community College (NCCC) Board of Trustees held a Special Board of Trustees Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, in the Student Union Boardroom on the Chanute Campus. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. and adjourned at approximately 9:45 a.m.
The special meeting was held to select a general contractor to complete the renovation of the Sanders Hall auditorium, known as the Mih Family Fine Arts Center Capital Campaign.
Trustees tasked DLR Group with designing the new fine arts facility and preparing bid documents. Designs were posted for bid July 10, and officially opened Aug. 14 at 2 p.m.
NCCC received three bids in total. After reviewing the total cost of each bid, costs of additional bid alternatives, and company vetting as part of the due diligence process, the administration recommended the bid from Loyd Builders in the amount of $5,751,600.
This bid includes the renovation of the 4,000-square-foot auditorium as well as the addition of a 400-square-foot green room, a 1,300-square-foot scene shop, 2,315-square-foot reception and event area, and a 1,300-square-foot memorial garden. The total bid is comprised of $5,655,900 for the based bid and an additional $95,700 for bid alternatives. Trustees approved the bid as proposed.
“We are excited to once again work with Loyd Builders. We have a great history of working with them on projects like the Ottawa Campus, the Mitchell Career and Technology Center, and the recent Student Union Plaza Project,” said Dr. Brian Inbody, NCCC President. “We have utilized them many times over the past 15 years and have been very pleased with the quality of their work. They have been great partners in helping us transform our facilities into something the community, students, and employees can be proud of.”
Base bids were also received from Key Construction (Wichita, Kan.) in the amount of $5,860,000 and Koehn Construction Services in the amount of $6,334,521. Copies of the bid packet were also sent upon request to Byrne and Jones Construction, Crossland Construction Company, Decker Construction Inc., Icon Structures, Multicon, Inc., and Vogts Construction Company.
Donations and grants for the project have exceeded $4.5 million and are still being accepted.
