FORT DODGE, Iowa — Playing five volleyball matches over three days, the No. 17 Neosho County Panthers went 2-3 at the Iowa Central Tournament.
Neosho County opened on Thursday with a 3-2 loss to Mesa. On Friday, the Panthers beat Hawkeye, 3-0, before losing to Madison, 3-2. As for Saturday, the Panthers were swept by Rochester, 3-0, before sweeping No. 20 Central, 3-0.
In the five-set, 3-2 (25-18, 25-22, 26-24, 26-24, 15-12) loss to Mesa, Neosho County’s Ella Bryan, who’s No. 6 in the nation in kills with 159, led with 18 kills, Tessie Kooistra added nine.
Sara Marzinot tallied 17 digs while Bryan chipped in 16. Sarah Wehrli had 22 assists while Bailey Owens, Emma Wheatley and Tessie Kooistra had five blocks apiece.
In the 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-17) win over Hawkeye, Brooke Galey led the Panthers with 11 kills while Bryan added nine.
Wehrli had 16 assists with Marzinot amassing 10 digs.
In Friday’s 3-2 (26-24, 21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-7) loss to Madison, Bryan racked up 20 kills — her second match of the year with over 20. Heather Frank had 27 digs for the Panthers while Wehrli had 22 assists.
As for Saturday’s 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-19) loss to Rochester, Bryan had 14 kills and 18 digs while Marzinot had 17 assists. Wheatley added four blocks.
Punctuating the weekend with a 3-0 (2517, 25-16, 25-19) win against Central, Bryan amassed 15 kills while Galey added nine.
Wehrli had 18 assists while Marzinot had eight digs.
