On Sunday, Sept. 14, members of High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club observed 4-H Sunday by attending services at the High Prairie Methodist Church. During the service each member introduced themselves and made a few remarks. Later in the day, the club reconvened at the church and held its regular meeting.
President Tatum Francis called to order the September meeting of the High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club. Flag leader Dawson Stich led the club in the flag salute and the 4-H pledge. Secretary Delanie Stich read the minutes from the August meeting. Roll call was “What subject do you like in school?” It was answered by 17 members and three leaders. Three members arrived later.
Song leader Locklynn Vest led the club in singing “Happy Birthday” to Henry Crawshaw and Danton Stich. Treasurer Gabe Engelman gave the treasurer’s report and Reporter Hunter Reaves read the Reporters report. Leader Andrew Engelman gave a summary of the Aug. 25, 4-H Council meeting.
Leader Kimberly Francis reminded the club that September is the last meeting of the 4-H year, and a new year starts Oct. 1, so enroll early and get notice of workshops in your project area and she congratulated all of the members who exhibited projects at the State Fair. Leader Andrew Engelman reminded members that record books are due Oct. 1, in the Extension office, so it is time to finish record books and pin applications or for some to get started on them.
For committee reports Leader Kimberly Francis reminded the members that the club fundraising event is Sept. 20 at the High Prairie Methodist Church and that they need to sign up to do talks, music or show their projects for the entertainment that night. A planning meeting will be held after the meeting.
There was no old business. In new business Leader Kimberly Francis presented a $25 check from the Cherryvale Youth Fair and a $100 anonymous donation.
Officer elections for the coming year were held. Election results were as follows: President-Garrett Engelman; Vice President-Tatum Francis; Secretary-Tinselle Francis; Treasurer-Gabe Engelman; Reporter-Hunter Reaves; Historian- Timbrel Francis; Parliamentarian- Oliver Bilby; 4-H Council Representatives-Garrett Engelman, Tatum Francis, Oliver Bilby, Tinselle Francis (Alt.), and Naomi Black (Alt.); Recreation Leaders-Chloe Kuhn, Sapherya Kuhn, and Jones Bilby; Song Leaders-Sienna Drumm-Williams, Cheyanne Gloshen and Locklynn Vest; Flag Leaders-Tracen Francis, Loren Vest and Henry Crawshaw.
The club voted to hold the October meeting at the Francis Family Funny Farm. Vice-President Garrett Engelman announced the program. Hunter Reaves presented a project talk on how one of his pigs contracted Mycoplasma, the treatment it received and how it eventually had to be put down.
Sienna Drumm-Williams gave a demonstration on how to make a strawberry kiwi smoothie.
Tracen Francis showed the club how to sight a gun. Caleb Kuhn talked about his camera, explained its basic parts and how he became interested in photography by being in yearbook class at school.
Recreation leader Caleb Kuhn led the club in playing “Ships and Sailors.”
Leader Kimberly Francis stated that Old Iron Days are at the end of the month, and members have the opportunity to bring their projects or animals to display and if they wish to do so contact her. On Oct. 5 there is a kickball tournament in Fredonia to kick off the new 4-H year and to promote 4-H and to come and bring a friend.
The Spirit Stick was awarded to Sienna Drumm-Williams for stepping up and speaking up for her sister who was absent during elections and keeping calm during a mishap while giving her demonstration. Leader Kimberly Francis had the members who had brought a pencil and paper to take notes to pick a number between 1-30 and Tatum Francis won the prize. The meeting was adjourned by standing and saying the 4-H Motto. Following the meeting the Reaves and Vest families provided the refreshments.
