Chanute races in Indy

INDEPENDENCE — Racing at the Independence Invitational, Labette County’s girls won the team standings while Chanute’s boys posted a pair of top-4 finishes.

In the girls’ race, Labette County’s Anna Cantrell won with a time of 20:46, winning by over a minute over Frontenac’s Cera Schenk, who took runner-up (22:23).

Landry O’Brien finished third (22:28) for Labette County, Aubrie Meyer sixth (23:08), Mikaela Carson 15th (24:44), Isabel Clevenger 20th (25:27) and Kaylee Eberhart 21st (26:22).

Chanute had three girls runners all finish in the top-12 — Violet Stich placed fourth (22:47), Laney Hillmon eighth (23:26) and Jarynn Hockett 12th (24:01).

Labette County won the team standings with 29 points, followed by Frontenac (33) and Pittsburg (68).

In the boys’ race, Caney Valley’s Simeon Sanchez won with a time of 16:13.

Chanute’s Easton Colborn took third (16:49) while Tucker Applegate was fourth (16:49).

Mason Greve placed 28th (19:31) and Joshua Schoenhofer 29th (19:36). Caney Valley won the team standings with 30 points, followed by Pittsburg (61), Labette County (74), Columbus (104), Coffeyville (114), Frontenac (147) and Neodesha (169).
