Cherryvale scores late to beat Eureka

EUREKA — A fourth quarter touchdown pass from Wyatt Duncan to Brock Carrico helped propel the Cherryvale Chargers over the Eureka Tornadoes, 14-8, in Week 3 football action on Friday night.

“The kids played hard for four quarters,” Cherryvale head coach Harry Hester said. “After Eureka’s first drive, our defense was lights out … A couple of turnovers early and some penalties stopped us on offense and we couldn’t get out of our own way. We regrouped at half and cleaned up our offense. We have some things to clean up this week before district play starts.”

Duncan was responsible for both of Cherryvale’s scores, rushing for a fiveyard touchdown in the second stanza to bring the halftime score to 8-6 in favor of Eureka.

Duncan finished the day with 73 rushing yards and 57 aerial yards on 6-of-8 passing with one touchdown and one interception.

Cherryvale limited Eureka to 111 total yards while racking up 238 of its own.
